Sant'Orso Fair

Every year, on 30th and 31st January more than 1,000 artisans gather in the centre of Aosta to revere the memory of one of the most beloved Saints linked to the Aosta Valley: Sant'Orso.

These two days of celebrations and exposition of hand-made products are meaningful: they represent the end of the winter season and the beginning of a new vital cycle in nature. Thus, the so-called Foire represents both the place and moment in which one can buy new equipment to be used while harvesting and share good pieces of advice for the works that need to be done during the whole year.

A visit to the Saint'Orso Fair is a unique experience, which needs to be lived emotionally too. The exhibitors at the fair are there not only for an economic purpose, but also to create a close relationship with visitors and to share some unforgettable moments. The event culminates with veillà, the long night between 30th and 31st January in which feast, songs and dances animate the well-stocked cellars until the sunrise, when the fair restarts.

One of the much-sough-after symbols of the Fair is the wooden cock: emblem of rebirth, it also represents care and protection against the evil spirits that live in darkness.

An ancient charm due to sacred and profane traditions, the slow return of life after a long and cold winter and the hospitality during the veillà are mixed together and make this event truly unmissable.
