Fiera di Sant'Orso

The Fair of Sant'Orso is one of the symbolic events of Aosta Valley, with the many participants including both residents and tourists. This is a fair of crafts and typical products that has been held in the center of Aosta for more than a thousand years on 30th and 31st January. At the fair, the traditional activities include sculpture and woodcarving, working on soapstone, wrought iron, and leather, and weaving the drap (wool fabric made on ancient wooden frame).

More than an exhibition of products, the Fair of Sant'Orso is a great popular event that celebrates the Aosta Valley's identity. The topical moment is the “Veillà,” staying awake in the night between January 30 and 31, in which the central streets come alive with voices and lights until dawn.
