Trofeo Mezzalama

The competition for the Mezzalama Trophy, one of the most ancient high mountain contests of the world, was founded in 1933 in memory of Ottorino Mezzalama, a pioneer in Alpine skiing. This is a biennial international ski mountaineering race on Monte Rosa. Interrupted various times in its history for organizational and weather problems, it was restored to a stable schedule in 1997 and since then has become one of the main ski mountaineering competitions at a worldwide level. In 2010, it joined the international circuit Grande Course, along with Pierra Menta, Adamello Ski Raid, Patrouille des Glaciers, and Tour du Rutor

The course winds between Breuil-Cervinia through the glaciers of Mont Rosa with mythic passages such as the Colle del Breithorn (3,826 m), the Castore (4,226 m), and the Passo del Naso of Lyskamm (4,150 m) then to reach Gressoney-La-Trinité (1,637 m) after 45 kilometers and an altitude difference of 2,862 meters uphill and 3,145 meters downhill.

The legend of the Mezzalama attracts thousands of athletes and spectators to every edition; thanks to the systems of Cervinia and Monterosa Ski, visitors can enjoy a unique high-altitude spectacle among the most celebrated peaks of the Alps.
