Alpine tradition in view of Monte Rosa
With the sparkling glaciers of Monte Rosa in the background, the community of Ayas consists of many villages scattered among forests and alpine slopes. The main center is Champoluc, nestled in a basin at 1568 meters altitude. This village is the most renowned tourist center of Ayas Valley for trekking, climbing on the Rosa chain and skiing in the Monterosa Ski complex, with approximately 180 km of trails.
The carefully preserved traditional 'Rascards', some structures manufactured in wood on stone supports in the shape of mushrooms, are the most authentic testimony of the Walser tradition.
